Random Rants For The Month Of May
Seth Rollins is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion defeating AJ Styles at Night Of Champions. While I'm still not thrilled with their now being essentially 3 heavyweight championships in the WWE realm. I do expect a fun title reign based on his current over the top persona combined with his still pristine wrestling style.
One thing I am annoyed about is WWE even under Triple H's regime (So they say), continues to be void of logic. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship was created as a RAW exclusive. With a tournament held on RAW and Smackdown??? It was mind boggling and made no damn sense at all.
The Backlash PLE to surprise of mostly everyone was a very good card. The crowd highlighted how WWE should do more PLE's outside of the continental US, Canada, The UK, and of course Saudi Arabia. Now of course there are logistical issues with time differences, but it's evident that locations that WWE doesn't tour very enough greatly raise the bar for the atmosphere of PLE's.
Speaking of which I would love to see a PLE hosted in Mexico. Just like the Bad Bunny match against Damien Priest was a love letter to Puerto Rican wrestling history with the addition of Savio Vega and Carlito. A WWE PLE in Mexico, would give WWE an opportunity to properly show Lucha Libre and Mexican wrestling some much needed love.
Just as The Way was bought back together, their disbanding them already? I'm very disappointed in that, but won't lie I am kind of intrigued by this new fairy version of Candice Larae.
Nick Khan is selling WWE and it's programs, discussing the possibility of Smackdown going to three hours and RAW switching nights. I don't blame Nick for trying to sell the company and squeeze more profit by convincing TV partners more is better, which is his job as CEO and a businessman. But he should probably focus more on making sure more a quality product is presented.
The 3 hour RAW is beyond exhausting at this point, but if they will never stray from it because of the ad revenue. They have got to figure out a way to hold people's attention the full 3 hours and not bog things down in the middle, which makes it really hard to get back into.
AEW
I attended my first AEW show, AEW Dynamite when they came to Baltimore earlier this month. I enjoyed the show live, the crowd was hot and it showed on TV.
Tony Khan came out before Dynamite and before Rampage taping started to thank the crowd for coming, hyped an upcoming show in D.C. and hype the All In Wembley show since tickets were released that week. I thought that was cool of Tony and wonder does he do that at every city they visit. However, both times Tony had good talking points but was really rambling.
Looks like adults have finally entered the room and CM Punk will rejoin the company, debuting for AEW Collision on June 17th. Good or bad CM Punk is always going to be CM Punk, that is one thing I respect greatly about him. Now the question is will CM Punk get out of CM Punk's way this go round?
Maybe it's me, but I think it's time the Jericho Appreciation Society kind of quietly disbands. Sammy is already breaking away from the group and I don't know their purpose seems to be null and void.
Unless I missed it, what's the deal with Miro? There hasn't been any continuation of him showing up backstage and going in Tony Khan's office.
Am I the only one confused on if Double Or Nothing or All Out is AEW's biggest show of the year? Both have a valid claim to being their big event, I've just never been able to figure out which one it is.
Now I didn't see Double Or Nothing, but the general consensus that I've gathered is it was rather lackluster. I'm hoping AEW took that feedback as constructive criticism and will produce a better quality event for Forbidden Door, All In and All Out.
AEW has hinted that Kenny Omega is reaching out to some old friends for help. Will Kota Ibushi who is a free agent appear at Forbidden Door or before?

So far Trinity joining Impact has been a godsend for both sides. She has helped the Impact product get more eyeballs, even just to see what she's doing. Already you can tell her training while she was away, and her working with Knockout members is already paying dividends.
Speaking of Impact, who would have thought Steve Maclin would be an effective heel and world champion? You cannot deny his run so far has been very entertaining.
Now, do we really need another Bully Ray Impact run?
Jordynne Grace contract has expired with Impact, rumor has it she is stepping away from the ring indefinitely to pursue other endeavors. She's only 26-27 years old and has accomplished a great deal within the last five years. When she is ready to return to the ring, I hope she goes back home to Impact and continues to dominate.
I really enjoy MLW, but wish I had more time to allocate to consistently watching it.
I caught an episode of Women Of Wrestling on Vice after Dark Side Of The Ring. It actually had decent in-ring matches, and flowed pretty well. I won't commit to watching it often, but as something to watch when trying to decompress for the evening. It's quality TV.
Speaking of Dark Side, Chris Candido seemed to be a very special guy outside of the ring. His story is another sad reminder of how much wrestlers endure, and how they are special type of human beings to continue to push forward despite any setbacks.
I think I am most looking forward to Bam Bam Bigelow's episode this season.
Memorial Day Weekend was a whirlwind for fans of professional wrestling. Impact's Under Siege and Smackdown Friday night, Night of champions Saturday, and NXT Battleground and AEW Double Or Nothing Sunday night. Followed by RAW Monday, it was a lot going on and I did not catch everything but honestly looking forward to a similar scenario for Labor Day Weekend.
At the end of May there's a lot to wonder on what's next for certain acts. The Bloodline, Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, Damage Ctrl and one or two more I'm currently drawing a blank on. June and possibly early July should be interesting to see what happens next.
Congratulations to Carmella and Corey Graves, Tay Conti and Sammy Guevara, and Alexa Bliss and Ryan Cabrera. Who have all announced they are expecting a bundle of joy this year
'Til next time folks.
