Wasted Opportunity: The Kanellis Love Story
In 2017 after a successful Impact Wrestling run, Maria Kanellis returned to the WWE with her husband Mike Bennett by her side. They were known as The Kanellis's with Mike taking her last name. The duo portrayed an annoyingly over the top couple who professed their love for one another every chance they got. They even had a cheesy rock inspired theme that would have been a billboard hit in the 80's. Yes everything was cheesy about them and it worked, but they weren't cheesy enough honestly. I know outside factors such as Maria getting pregnant and Bennett having outside factors he had to address curtailed the gimmick. Yet, I don't think WWE knew what they wanted from the gimmick and that hampered it. While they cut promos on how in love they were. There should have been vignettes where they showcased just how corny in love they were. Or potentially interesting backstage segments where they "helped" other wrestling couples with their relationship. Maybe even b...
