TNA, Where's The X-Cup Tournament?

 

After a month of exciting soccer matchups;  featuring the best teams from around the world. The FiFA World Cup ends today with Spain facing off against Argentia in the finals. The World Cup proved how exciting and popular soccer is around the world. With excitement, promotion, and everything else surrounding the tournament kicking off in late April/early May, ahead of the games.

Which when I stopped and thought about it, really has me wondering about TNA. At a time when they could use ALL the good promotion they could get. Why did TNA not plan accordingly and bring the X Cup tournament during this time?

If your not familiar, the  X cup tournament is basically the World Cup in the squared circle. First held by TNA back in 2003, it primarily focused on the X Division and bought wrestlers from around the world in for the tournament. They've labeled it strictly the X cup, Super X Cup, or the World X cup, depending on the tournament style they are holding at that time. The premise is the same however.

It was a great opportunity for indy and foreign wrestlers to get some shine and build their names. 7 tournaments have been held in the companies history, with Ace Austin winning the last one in 2021. When TNA held their series of One Night Only pay-per-views, they held some X cup/world cup influenced cards.

Which is why I am perplexed TNA did not take advantage of this good timing. Even if they couldn't put a tournament together at this time, or did not want to look like they were jocking. Holding their tournament the same time as the world cup. They could have at least announced and promoted a return of the X cup.

Which definitely could have offset the news cycle they've had, with multiple talents leaving. Makes you wonder if the powers that be just weren't aware (not sure how.) Just didnt care to find different ways to build the brand. Or don't feel it was necessary. 

No matter the reason, I must ask. Where is the damn X cup?
