July Random Rants
Man July is over already? It's amazing how some month's crawl and other month's breeze by, and it's always the summer months that fly by. One of the biggest occurrences outside of pro wrestling this month, the crowdstrike/Microsoft outage had a significant impact on my profession as IT admin and we're still cleaning up the mess. So this month's rant will be real short.
John Cena announced at Money In The Bank, he will be embarking on a retirement tour for the next year. His announcement marks the true end of a era as he held WWE on his back for a good 15 years, it also shine's light that Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar (maybe) are the last ones standing from the Ruthless Aggression era. Time waits for no one.
I am glad that fan's will take this opportunity to give Cena his flowers, after years of turning against him due to overexposure and the Super Cena era.
I'm really enjoying the Solo Sikoa and Bloodline video promos. It helps Solo as a performer from my perspective, as he clearly is more comfortable in that setting than cutting promos in front of a live crowd. It also separates his reign as the tribal chief from Roman's, and the shining light help's project that godfather aura they are going for with him.
While we're on The Bloodline, for those that didn't know much about Jacob Fatu before his debut in WWE. They are learning quickly just how special of a talent that guy is, he is the next breakout star of The Bloodline as things lead to the much anticipated new Bloodline vs old Bloodline angle.
I don't care what anyone say's this Dirty Dom, Liv Morgan, Rhea triangle angle has been very entertaining. Liv has really taken the ball and ran with it, while it's evident Dom is actually scared of Rhea. Throw in the impending breakup of Judgment Day alongside this angle and it is damn good TV.
I'm not sure what the deal is with Bobby Lashley and MVP and their respective contracts expiring. Depending on what you read, whether it be just they couldn't agree to terms on a new deal or the company felt they no longer had anything for either talent. It does seem like they both were done kind of dirty in this scenario, I could be wrong though. If I'm not that is a symptom of the cutthroat business side of pro wrestling.
I do hope if they decide to, both end up in TNA for another run. AEW will waste both of them in my opinion.
Speaking of TNA, Slammiversary from the matches I saw was a damn good wrestling. I sincerely hope this partnership with WWE, will convince people TNA is the truth and to give them a chance.
I'll admit I really only watch AEW Dynamite consistently. Collision as much as I advocated for a Saturday Night Show I kind of catch it as I can. So maybe I missed it......
But what happened to EJ Nduka becoming the bodyguard of Swerve? It was teased when he appeared alongside Swerve during a promo against Will Ospreay ahead of Double Or Nothing and just vanished. Wasted opportunity by AEW if you ask my opinion.
Speaking of bodyguards I am really excited about the pairing of Kamille and Mercedes Mone. Kamille is a great addition to the heel Mercedes act.
AEW held they're most recent edition of Battle Of The Belts this past Saturday. It was an entertaining hour of wrestling with a big surprise. However, I really think AEW Battle Of The Belts could be more for AEW. Unfortunately I just don't know what they could do to get more people to watch it, and make it mean something. There's already 2 hours of Dynamite and Collision, an hour of Rampage, they are moving to the monthly PPV format.
Even though Battle Of The Belts is quarterly I'm not sure what day of the week, they could hold it on to give it real promotion and a prime time slot. To give the specials a chance and the matches to have bigger ramifications for the top tier programs.
That's all folks, Summerslam is this weekend and I will be in Cleveland, so I'm hoping the show is one for the ages. Til next time, stay safe and enjoy the summer.
