Give MVP His Flower's Now
Montel Vontavious Porter better known as MVP is an underrated but future legend in pro wrestling. A reformed felon who has made it his personal lifes mission to help steer others away from that path, burst onto the wrestling scene in 2006. Debuting on Smackdown as the hottest free agent in the game. MVP displayed swagger, flashy jewerly, the hot at the time Ballin' catchphrase, and an unique entrance with the inflatable tunnel.
He soon became an impact player of the Smackdown brand. Hosting his own talk show segment with the VIP Lounge. Proving he could go in the ring with some of the best, evident by his feud with Chris Benoit for the United States championship. He also was apart of one of the most exciting yet underrated feuds with Matt Hardy, where they became tag team champions while always engaging in competitions to try to show one another up.He milled around in WWE for a few more years, before leaving and eventually signing with NJPW. It was there he became the first IWGP Intercontinental champion. He then moved to TNA, where I believe his skill set that makes him a future legend truly came to fruition. MVP knows how to make those around him better.
When he was in TNA and the mid 2010's, him, Kenny King, and Bobby Lashley were running shit as a unit. If I recall the group wasn't ever explicatly named but unofficially was known as MLK. The group then transitioned into The Beat Down Clan (BDC) adding members Hernandez, Samoa Joe, Low Ki, and Eric Young. With the exception of Kenny King and Samoa Joe, the remaining members were not very good talkers, but they can wrestle. MVP bought life to the act and it was the best thing going in TNA at the time, unfortunately due to behind the scenes drama it was abruptly cut short.
Fast forward to the WWE today and the Hurt Business led by MVP is the best thing going right now on the RAW Brand, and the second best behind the Roman Tribal Chief angle. It's all thanks to MVP, with his guidance and I'm sure his willingness behind the scenes to speak up when somethings not quite right.
He has made Bobby Lashley relevant again especially after that trainwreck of an angle with Rusev and Lana. He has given Shelton Benjamin a immensely talented and one of the most exciting wrestler's ever who can still go in his 40's but just doesnt have the charisma, a renewed focus and purpose. Cedric Alexander who is the young gun of the group is showing more personality and confidence behind the mic and while in ring. With their suits and cash rules mentality, The Hurt Business has potential to be one of the greatest factions in recent memory.
During their feud with Ricochet and Apollo Crews, those guys could always wrestle but from a character perspective they slightly improved by working with The Hurt Business. In my personal opinion Richochet should just join The Hurt Business simply to reinvent his character, and be taught how to not be so corny on the microphone. He's even made the angle with Retribution which right now is a downgrade for The Hurt Business tolerable.
Few people will acknowledge the greatness MVP brings to the table by building those around him up. MVP may never be a world champion, nor on someones mount rushmore of wrestling but he is an asset to any company he's with. Let's give MVP his flowers while we still can.
