Time To Make Santos Escobar A Main Event Star
A couple weeks ago news dropped that Santos Escobar's contract with WWE was expiring, with the expectation he was leaving. Contract expires Santos walks away, day or two later he resigns. With word being WWE addressed concerns Escobar had about his roster use and creative plans.
I'm hoping it's the dawn of a new era for Santos. When he debuted in NXT back in 2020 he had star written all over him. His presentation, wrestling ability and promo skills were top notch. He was a formidable leader for LDF (Legado Del Fantasma), and I thought would be a prominent main eventer for NXT. In fact I was shocked when I researched and learned he has won only one championship during his WWE tenure, and that was the cruiserweight championship in NXT.
It's time for that to change. Santos should be a frequent contender for the United States Championship eventually being champion. He has the mic skills and heat to be a top tier heel. Better yet the Smackdown roster is in desperate need of more players in the main event scene.
Santos could be the perfect heel in that scene, facing off against Cody Rhodes. If not Cody, there's Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, Damian Priest, Jacob Fatu, and even the OTC Roman Reigns. All faces of the 'E that he could seek to always one up.
At 41 years old, he's no spring chicken but still has plenty to offer to WWE. Which they know, otherwise they would not have resigned him. I don't want to say give a 20 plus year industry vet a chance.
However, WWE needs to stop blocking his star power as a heel and let him reign supreme. Preying on the "baby faces" of the WWE Smackdown landscape. He doesn't need to be a cowardly heel, or a egomaniac heel. Give him a killer instinct character with clear ambition and goals and I think he'd run with it.
I promise if they do, he would prove me right. WWE let's make it happen.
