Death Riders Are Stuck In Neutral

Last fall when Jon Moxley returned to AEW he had a new objective, to destroy AEW from within as it was no longer the company he knew. Fair enough and intriguing angle to get people talking, then Marina Shafir stood by his side as his muscle. Then Pac and Claudio turned on Bryan Danielson at All Out, while Wheeler Yuta helplessly stood by. Ok people are really talking now what's going on? This new unit pulled some nWo stunts, causing havoc and randomly attacking fellow wrestlers.

Meanwhile Moxley still pushed to destroy AEW letting originals know it's no longer their company. He defeated Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, where Wheeler Yuta officially joined Moxley's mission. After there Moxley put the championship in a briefcase held by Marina, they started cutting promos from a pickup truck, and essentially performed beat downs every week on some wrestler.

Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy led the charge to fend off this group, which helped make both wrestlers bigger stars. Since October when WrestleDream was held, the story of the Death Riders seemed to get repetitive every week. I personally thought they were just turning the fire down a bit leading up to World's End in December when the next chapter in the story would begin. The big story for that was Adam Copeland now known as Cope returning to now fend off the Death Riders with FTR by his side.

Since then, the group has essentially lost all steam. Moxley has still been cutting damn good promos, but with Cope and FTR now the one's to lead the charge you kind of scratch your head. For one as great of a talent he is, Cope is 51 years old. Two neither Cope or FTR are AEW originals and even if they are not the one's planned to unsurp the group, someone else should be leading the way in the fight. Three they are given real nWo vibes with no direction right now.

Quite simply the Death Riders story has cooled and the group is stuck in neutral. Everyone truly look's like they are going through the motions right now. And the storyline is dangerously close to going off the rails like the Devil storyline did last year. I'm not sure if the rumored angle of Shane McMahon being the one behind the group collapsed during negotiations, or that was never the plan but right now there is no plan.

All I know is I'm rapidly losing interest in this story, and based on what I've seen and talking to other fans I'm not the only one. There are those on the other side of the coin who say let the story cook, but with no major development since October time is running out in this short attention span society we are in. I think if nothing of substance happens at Revolution then AEW needs to course correct and completely end this group and angle.

Until then we all will be stuck in neutral.
