5 Dominant Female Factions

In the world of professional wrestling, factions are a important part of the landscape. We all know legendary factions like the Four Horsemen, nWo, D-Generation X, Nation of Domination, LAX, Bullet Club and Evolution. To more middle of the road factions like F.B.I., The Way. Jericho Appreciation Society, and Revolution. One thing for sure though is with all these factions that have come and gone in pro wrestling. Female led factions are still scratching the surface, so to spotlight these factions I decided to do 5 dominant female factions in pro wrestling.

Donna Del Mondo

I will admit I do not watch any wrestling outside of North American promotions mainly just clips, primarily due to time constraints and barely keeping up with U.S. based promotions as is. However while brainstorming this article, a frequent reader and collaborator threw out Donna Del Mondo. I looked them up and damn they just maybe the personification of dominant female factions. Founded by current NXT star Giulia in 2020, this deep roster has included Thekla, Maika, Mirai, Mai Sakurai, Syrui, Himeka, and Natsupoi. Collectively they were quite dangerous to the competition in Stardom and at times New Japan.

In four years the unit had 14 title reigns of various championships primarily in Stardom and one in New Japan. Reading up on this group, it's a shame I've never seen them and like me other wrestling fans never saw them. They were really kicking ass and leaving opponents scrambling for their teeth in the ring.

Black Lotus Triad

Hidden deep in the niche temple of Lucha Underground was a quartet of women, who were quite dangerous. The Black Lotus Triad only existed as a faction for a couple episodes of Lucha Underground, but they made a hell of a impact in those two episodes. The stable consisted of Black Lotus (Angela Fong), Doku (Kairi Sane), Yurei (Mayu Iwatani), and Hitokiri (Io Shirai/Io Sky). The women were involved in a feud with Pentagon Jr. (Penta), and some hard hitting, heavy chops and slams matches occurred.

They even left Pentagon in the middle of the ring essentially lifeless, gasping for air. 3 of the 4 women in the faction are some of the best female wrestlers to come from Japan. In addition to the fact they all stood toe to  toe with Pentagon. Made their brief but dominating performance in Lucha so impactful.

Toxic Attraction

When Mandy Rose moved back to NXT in 2021 and aligned with two new members of the NXT roster, many did not expect much from the trio. Mandy was considered as nothing more than a pretty face, while GiGi Dolan had her friends the jury was still out on Jacy Jayne. Instead all three members proved they didn't come to play and basically ran NXT for the next year and a half.

The veteran of the group Mandy became NXT Women's Champion, proving that she was a good pro wrestler while also developing her mic skills, forcing many to despise her when she talked. She held the title for over 400 days before losing to Roxanne Perez on her way out the door. GiGi and Jacy became NXT Women's Tag Team Champions twice, while helping Mandy retain her championship. It's a shame the group ended so unceremoniously as they were really dominant during their run.

Damage CTRL

Debuting in the summer of 2022 Damage CTRL is one faction with a hell of a roster. Initially led by Bayley, members of the group include Asuka, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky, and Kairi Sane. All hard hitting female wrestlers, who are accomplished on their own. So bringing them together made them a force to be reckoned with. Like honestly, who really would want to face off against these five women?

As a unit they have won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship 3 times with Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky holding the titles twice. Asuka and Kairi holding it another time. Bayley winning the 2024 Women's Royal Rumble. Iyo winning the Money In The Bank last year and both the WWE Women's Championship once and currently the Women's World Championship. I wish they were involved in more in depth angles, but they still have not been one faction to mess with.

The Beautiful People

Since TNA was ahead of the women's wrestling revolution curve, they've been able to build a greater legacy for women's wrestling in North American promotions. For female factions, that is no more evident than The Beautiful People. What started as a duo of Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, and later included Madison Rayne and Lacey Von Erich. The women perfected the mean girls prima donna act, that several other factions have borrowed from.

Pretty, callous, and influential is how I would describe the group. They were often featured in the top female based angles, and were hallmarks of the 2000's era. Winning the TNA Knockouts tag team championship twice with various members, and Angelina Love holding the Knockouts Championship four times while a member of the group, and Madison Rayne holding it twice. In my opinion The Beautiful People are the gold standard of female factions. They deserve to be in the TNA Hall OF Fame for their dominance and contribution to the Knockouts division and women's wrestling in general.
