Talkin' Suplexes Fantasy Booking

Armchair booking or Fantasy booking as some people call it, it's what fans of pro wrestling do. As we watch programming we always talk amongst our friends about what we would do for certain wrestlers or angles. It's important that fans do this because it shows we care about the product we're watching. In this blog I'm going to do some armchair booking on a few things in pro wrestling.

AEW

Miro oh Miro. I get Miro may not want to portray an straight ass kicking bull like he was in WWE and show that he has personality. I also get he enjoys playing video games, like many adults of his generation but his current gimmick isn't working. I like the "Best Man" persona but they haven't done anything to portray him as the best at what he does. There should be vignettes parodying Curt Hennings "Mr. Perfect" vignettes from the 80's, but instead of incredible athletic feats. He should be doing regular things amongst his friends showing why he is the best. 

Playing video games, chugging beers, gambling, cooking, having a spirited debate with people and winning all of them or having the best presentation to play off being the best man. He should also be having under one minute squash matches, handicap matches or wrestling two times in one night winning both to show he is the best. 

It looks like a female roster civil war maybe brewing between Vickie Guerrero and her clients and Brandi Rhodes and her associates. Even though at Full Gear it looked like Vickie was abandoning Nyla Rose, they were both backstage holding back officials while Jade Cargill attacked Brandi. The womens division currently doesnt have much direction, so I would go full steam ahead with this angle.

This could go a few ways have Vickie, Nyla, and Jade gain the services of indy wrestler Savannah Evans who recently appeared on AEW Dark. Savannahs gimmick is that of "The Cannibal" they could use her size advantage and gimmick, then have Savannah and Nyla be the destroyers of the group while Jade continues to train. Savannah and Big Swole have also teamed many times on the indy scene, so AEW could utilize their history if they want. Savannah could be upset with Big Swole for signing with AEW and only getting her an AEW Dark match and not a contract. While Vickie was able to get the contract for her.

Another option is Vickie could bring back Mel from the Nightmare Collective who would be angry at Brandi for leaving her to fend for herself when the Nightmare Collective angle was dropped. Then there is the option of bringing Diamante and Ivelesse into the fold, or have indy wrestlers that have appeared on Dark and Dynamite weekly be the "hired guns". Brandi has Swole, La Velvett, and Serena Deeb in her corner. She needs one more person who could make an impact on her side..unfortunately I couldn't think of anyone, any suggestions?

WWE

First things first the 24/7 title has ran it's course and it's segments are just ridiculous now. Guys like Tozawa, Lince Dorado, and poor Drew Gulak are too talented to be regelated to this angle. R. Truth plays whatever comes his way to perfection, especially the clueless character. His new gimmick should be similiar to a character in the WWF in the early 2000's Just Joe. Just Joe's gimmick was that intentionally would stir the pot amongst other wrestlers. R. Truth should do the same but it shouldn't be intentional, it should be because he honestly doesn't know any better and it comes back to bite him in the ass often.

Since returning over the summer Sami Zayn's persona has hints of a conspricay theorist, with everyone out to get him. I would have him fully embrace this persona with rapid fire vignettes aired on Smackdown of the most ludicrous conspricays against him, such as someone taking his daily parking space. Catering knowing he has certain dietary restrictions and never has what he can eat, the most outrageous stuff he could complain about. It would be so annoying it would make fans despise him even more, but he needs a partner, a follower who truly embraces his conspricays. I'm thinking a guy who is sitting at home right now and who once had you Bolieve in him. 

Dolph Ziggler one of the most talented guys on the roster who always seems to be floundering. His presentation also needs an update. It's clear he give's off rock star vibes, so why not go full speed ahead and have him portray the nuances of a rock star. Nothing silly like coming to the ring with a guitar in his hand. Just little subtle things that put you in the mind of a rock star, pulling up to the arena in a corvette. Showing him getting off a tour bus with random groupies, always unprepared for a match or late. Then once that bell rings he is gold in the squared circle. Have Bobby Roode be the straight man always trying to keep him in line, and getting frustrated but deals with it because they win when it matters.

Retribution! WWE has completely wasted this group and they have lost any momentum they had. The reveal dragged out too long, their reason for signing contracts and WWE giving them contracts was illogical. The fact they come to the ring with music makes no sense for a group of outsiders. All of them are talented and Mustafa Ali has really dug into his role showing he has personality, passion, and mic skills to match his in ring skills.

Have the members of Retribution unmask, realizing they can do more damage with their real names or new names come up with a true purpose for them wanting to destroy the "machine" and then have Mustafa play the leader who ideals you can buy into. Think Erik Killmonger from Black Panther, Magneto from X-Men, or even Thanos. Ideals that are quite radical on the surface but if you stopped and thought about the underlying issue their addressing, they just may have a point. 

Then have Richochet with his superhero aspirations fly into the night as the superhero to their villain stable. Maybe corny but at this point Retribution has flatlined and needs any type of revival.

This past Sunday was Survivor Series which had some good matches and Undertakers Final Farewell, but was also lackluster. That's because Survivor Series is the weakest link of the big 4 with no meaning. No one cares about the faux brand wars WWE tries to push every year. Build Survivor Series teams with ramifications for the sole survivor, a #1 title contendership for a championship of their choosing. The guaranteed 30th slot in the Royal Rumble, something to make it relevant and make people care again.
