Free Agent Speculation
Everytime it's reported a wrestlers contract is up with their current promotion, fan's love debating about where they will go next. With the Royal Rumble a day away, we may see one or two of these free agents appear in the Rumble. Until then, here's my take on where some wrestlers may end up.
Zicky Dice
Finishing his run with NWA at the top of the year, Zicky Dice is a true character in professional wrestling. A throwback to the cartoonish characters of the 80's. He's in your face, with an over the top exaggerated personality, blonder hair with a mullet and outlandish "loud" clothes. He also is a solid gritty wrestler with enough gruff about him and a born enterainter. Where should he go?
I think of Ring of Honor, no he won't set the world on fire in ROH. What he will do though is give ROH a captivating figure that will entertain folks within ROH's wrestling focused bubble. He would be a solid mid-carder with wild antics for the more serious wrestlers like Tracy Williams, Silas Young, and Jonathan Gresham to go against, maybe pushing them to improve their promo skills going against Zicky in the process.
Ethan Page
Ethan Page is a talented charismatic wrestler who knows he's that damn good. It's a reason his nickname is "All Ego", he has all the tools to be a top tier player in any organization. He also has multiple ranges to his personality, he can be quite goofy when it's needed and then display a killer instinct once the bell rings.
He also likes to think outside the box evident by his Karate Man persona on YouTube. Based on how pissed he was with how badly Impact handled his Page vs. Karate Man match at Hard to Kill. I think AEW would be his best bet. AEW would afford him the freedom to present his character and persona without minimal interference from the front office. He's partnered with Cody before in tag matches so there is a relationship there with AEW. He could be a star for AEW to build outside of members of the Elite.
Taya Valkyrie
Taya Valkyrie has wrestled around the world honing her craft in Mexico wrestling for Triple AAA, before gaining fame in the States as a frequent competitor on Lucha Underground. She then transitioned to Impact continuing the organizations tradition of providing quality womens wrestling, becoming the longest reigning Knockouts champion in history.
In my opinion Taya would be a great addition to Ring of Honor. Not sure what their immediate plans are for their women of honor division, but last I checked they only have Sumie Sakai, the Allure and Maria Maniac on their women's roster. Taya is a good wrestler with comedic timing and enough acting ability to make angles work. ROH could build the divison around her for the next few years.
In reality I think at this stage in her career the potential to make WWE money, and work alongside her husband John Morrison again is too tempting to pass up. She'll likely end up in WWE, I think going to NXT briefly if at all before moving to RAW working alongside John.
Dalton Castle
Dalton Castle appeared on this past week's episode of ROH, but I haven't seen any news that he has officially resigned. So we'll roll ahead as if he has not resigned, leaving ROH probably is the best thing for Dalton. His gimmick had gotten stale in their environment, his heel turn was eh and his unfortunate injurt didn't help matters. He needs a change of scenery to rejuvenate his career.
I think he would easily get lost in AEW. Making a couple of high profile appearances before getting saddled with a silly story or becoming a AEW Dark regular. The WWE system likely wouldn't understand his character and any attempts to put their own spin on it would end up failing. Impact makes quirky characters work like no other promotion, and Dalton would fit in perfect with their wacky roster.
I personally believe MLW would be the best fit for Dalton. For anyone reading and thinking what the fuck? MLW? hear me out. Dalton is a solid mat based wrestler with a defined character as flamboyant and wacky as the planet peacock character maybe.
MLW has wrestlers with more personas and not so much gimmicks or characters. Dalton could bring his Dalton quirks to MLW and stand out amongst the roster. With the matches he could have against Hammerstone, Jacob Fatu, Low Ki, and more he could find a renewed spirit.
Jay White
I'm not 100% sure if Jay White leaving NJPW is an angle or not. However, if he is truly finished with New Japan he can go anywhere he damn well pleases and be a success.
I know WWE and AEW would come calling, but WWE needs to figure out their current roster before obtaining more talent honestly. AEW just doesn't have enough TV time to properly display all of the talent they've acquired, especially now with the cross promotion with Impact.
Speaking of Impact! Impact would be a good fit for Jay. His sinister calculating switchblade persona would be a contrast to much of Impact's roster allowing him to stand out.
