I'm All For Two Night Mania
WrestleMania 37 was this past weekend and while both shows were enjoyable, the night one card was the better of the two. That aside, watching both nights made me realize how great it would be to have WrestleMania both nights moving forward. Here's my main reason why I'm all for two nights of WrestleMania
One night of WrestleMania is just too damn long. Before the pandemic caused the WWE to make the past two Mania's two night events, the one nights were just getting longer and longer. They were 7-8 hour shows and I don't care how much you love wrestling that is too time to ask of fans to sit at an event and maintain energy throughout. The first Mania I went to WrestleMania 27 wasn't bad with an runtime of 4 hours, the next Mania I attended WrestleMania 33 ended a little after midnight. I stayed through the entire show but between being up since six that morning to attend Axxess, the Flordia Sun beating on me at Camping World Stadium, and unnesscary segments such as Flo-Ridas mini concert I was exhaused by time the bell rang for Roman vs Taker.
WrestleMania 34 was the same thing, I learned my lesson about attending the morning Axxess the day of the show. However I still got up early in the morning and enjoyed New Orleans, before attending the WrestleMania block party and then heading into the superdome for the show. The event ran until after midnight and again I was exhausted. Since so many people come into town for Mania, WWE likely feels like they can go as long as they like. However there are also several local fans of the host cities who attend the shows and many likely don't take the next day off from work. Not to mention the fans watching at home who once the show starts running past 10:30 likely turn it off.
A two-night Mania solves the runtime problem or at least takes that one night 8 hour runtime and divides it into a more bareable two night 4 hour each event. It also gives more fans a chance to attend a WrestleMania which is on nearly all wrestling fans bucket list. It also creates anticipation, coming off of a hot night 1 of Mania fans start clamoring for night 2 and that's all thats talked about. After the way night 1 ended this year and last year, I couldn't wait for night 2 to start. I honestly dont think I've been as excited for a WrestleMania I wasn't attending in years like I was for night 2 Sunday.
Of course from the WWE perspective if they did stick with the two-night format, there are some logistical issues around how WrestleMania Weekend is structured they would need to work out. What to do about the Hall Of Fame? What night is Takeover moved to? What kind of show would Friday Night Smackdown be? A recap show or a actual event in the host city? How would Axxess (my favorite part of Mania weekend) be held? Not to mention the many indy promotions who come to town and run shows Friday and Saturday night, how would they schedule their shows to not compete against Mania both nights?
In my opinion WrestleMania is already a spectacle and an experience. A two-night event would make it even more of a spectacle than it already is. I know many people are torn between two-nights or one night, I'm all for the two-night format staying.
