X Division The Foundation of TNA/IMPACT

In 2002 WCW and ECW had been out of business for a year, and WWE was the only game in town. Jeff Jarrett and a few partners gathered together to give wrestlers another place to work, thus TNA wrestling was born.

While starting out like any brand TNA was still trying to find its identity and mainly relied on established stars to reel in an audience. While finding their footing they decided to create the X Division, which was basically a new take for a new generation of the WCW cruiserweight division. This division had no weight limits, in fact it had no limits. Spearheaded by four men I call the "founding fathers" of the X Division, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and Frankie Kazarian. The X Division pretty much stole the card every night putting on highly athletic, fast paced, hard-hitting matches. Check out Final Resolution 2005 with AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Christopher Daniels to see just how the X Division always tore the house down.

With a supporting cast such as Jay Lethal, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, Petey Williams and Low Ki among others. The X Division was the epitome of  TNA's meaning, Total Nonstop Action. Which was accentuated by matches like Ultimate X, which had two cables cross connected above the ring with some sort of prize in the middle to grab. This match always opened the door for innovative moves such as the Christopher Daniels moonsault .

Especially during the Fox Sports Network and later the Spike TV years, when TNA was always in a state of flux. The one constant fans could always look forward to was the X Divsion. In fact it could be argued it was the Knockouts and X Division's that really kept TNA/Impact relevant when the main card was in shambles. Even Kurt Angle took part in the X Division and was champion of the division in 2007.

20 years later, Impact Wrestling is still the house that the X Division built. Now wrestlers such as Chris Bey, Ace Austin, Rich Swann and Trey Miguel are still dazzling wrestling fans with their quickness, swiftness and daredevil wrestling moves. Without the X Division there is no telling how long TNA/Impact would have lasted. Let's appreticate the OG's of the division, while giving praise to the current members who are holding the torch and still lighting shit on fire.
