August Random Rants

Just like that August is over and with it essentially so is summer. This month kicked off with me attending Summerslam in Cleveland. I enjoyed Summerslam and the city of Cleveland is a hidden gem, having attended 3 of the 4 Big Four WWE events (I still don't consider Money In The Bank a big one). I just need Survivor Series to come on to Baltimore, and save me some coins.

Speaking of Baltimore, after arriving home Sunday afternoon from Cleveland. I was at CFG Arena the next night for a very good edition of Raw. I had not seen the arena that packed for a wrestling event in a long time, and it turns out it was a legit sell out. WWE is on fire right.

It's officially been over a year since AEW held a show in Baltimore...what the hell they waiting on? While we're at it, when is TNA in an effort to expand market reach, make they're way to Baltimore for a show as well.

Now onto some other rants.

Ricochet debuted in AEW at All Out in London. While everyone pretty much knew he was joining AEW, it sure would have been nice to be surprised at All Out as it wasn't known when he would sign. I get websites need to make money and justify their subscriptions, but sometimes it would be nice to genuinely be surprised.

Wrestlers cutting promos in the crowd is unique and a cool visual on TV, but WWE has to be careful to avoid wearing it out. During the month of August it seemed like every episode of RAW had a wrestler cutting a promo from the crowd.

Solo Sikoa's promo on the August 30th edition of Smackdown mentioned how he took Jimmy and Roman out. With Roman slated to return on the September 13th edition of Smackdown on the USA network. Jimmy's return can't be far behind as we start leading to the road to WarGames at Survivor Series. He returns at that same Smackdown to save Roman from another beatdown, or maybe at Badd Blood.

Who in WWE thought of the name Pure Fusion Collective? The trio of ladies deserves better. On the other hand I love the name Fatal Influence in NXT, and the mission statement of why they are teaming up to wreck havoc in NXT. You actually can sympathize with Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley's point of view in this case.

While talking about NXT, I enjoy small things that make characters stand out. Ethan Page's personal mic flag is one of those subtle things that sets him apart. His potential that everyone saw fully in TNA, and glimpses in AEW are paying off in NXT.

Not sure what the deal is with JBL's recent appearances in AAA, GCW, and now TNA. But this lone cowboy role that is ambiguous to what the end game will be is very intriguing.

Matt Cardona is a GENIUS, his Jurassic Park inspired entrance at GCW Homecoming Night 2 was something special. As a fellow pop culture geek, I love how he embraces his geekdom and seemingly one ups himself everytime he steps out for a big entrance. He has proven since the day's of Z True Hollywood Story, that the man is very creative and knows how to market himself.

This New Day angle is pointing to Xavier Woods stepping out and turning on Kofi after expressing dissatisfaction with Odyssey Jones tagging along. I wonder if it's a red herring, and Kofi and Odyssey will be the one's to turn after they notice Xavier just isn't cooperating. Either way it will be a sad day when the spilt happens.

I love that Bronson Reed is bringing back the absolute monster character, destroying everything in his path. While I'm enjoying this reign of terror, I hope it is leading to some championship gold.

The end of August bought about the sad passing of one Syscho Sid Vicious, a true larger than life one of a kind talent. He always looked unhinged and displayed that "tick" that you never know what would set him off. Whether it was as the Millennium Man or as the Master and the Ruler of the world. It was clear Sid marched to the beat of his own drum in the ring and outside. It's a shame he did not get his flowers in the form of a WWE Hall of Fame induction before his passing. R.I.P. Sid Vicious

That's it for August rant's. Have a good Labor Day weekend everyone and a safe September.
