NXT Should Bring Back SuperBrawl
Last summer word got out that WWE had filed to trademark the title SuperBrawl after letting it lapse. For those unfamiliar SuperBrawl was a WCW event that began in May of 1991 and for the remaining years, up until the last event in 2001 was held in February. It was an obvious play on the Super Bowl name and many consider their big first quarter pay-per-view each year.
Since the NFL playoffs start this weekend, we are officially on the road to Super Bowl LIX. I figured it's time to revive the name.
To be honest in the 11 events WCW had bearing the SuperBrawl name, nothing extraordinary really occurred on any of the events. There were good matches but outside of Scott Steiner turning on his brother Rick during SuperBrawl VIII in 1998, other "big" events were Macho Man joining the nWo the year before and Rey Mysterio being unmasked the year after.
However, Triple H and Shawn Michaels have shown a willingness to pay homage to the past with NXT by resurrecting events, and using that intellectual property the company has owned for going on 24 years at this point. There are several fans who know nothing about the event or WCW and would look at the name and check out WWE's section on Peacock only helping WWE build their brand further.
If they were to bring it back as a supershow, and have the event held the Tuesday that's sandwiched between the conference championships and the Super Bowl (February 4th(. They may gain new casual and potentially devoted fans who collerate the naming between the two events. Especially if they put on a show stopping card leading to Vegenace, and people get sucked in.
I don't think they lose anything if they bring the name back, but they have everything to win if they bring it back and make it relevant. Making NXT's SuperBrawl an event to see every winter.
