Hindsight Edition-Ahmed Johnson in The Nation
Ahmed Johnson debuted in the WWF in 1995, a hulking intimidating figure he soon rose through the ranks in the WWF. He was the first Black Intercontinental Champion in the WWF, and many predicted he would soon become the first Black WWF World Heavyweight Champion. There were just a few things holding Ahmed back, he was a bit dangerous and sloppy in the ring. His promos often sounded like a bunch of gibberish and made no sense, and oh yeah he was quite injury prone.
In late 1996, Faarooq started a new faction The Nation of Domination, which was a militant group using the ideals of Malcolm X and The Nation of Islam as an foundation. Seems like as soon as the Nation of Domination formed, Ahmed Johnson was selected as the one to lead the fight to take the Nation down.
Ahmed and Allies fought the Nation for several months, and then in the Summer in of 1997 things changed. Faarooq fired many members of the Nation and built a "New " Nation of Domination. Shockingly Ahmed joined the Nation of Domination.
His reasoning was that The Nation were his real brothers and The "Man" didn't back him in his quest for the WWF championship. It's clear from his first promo with the Nation, Ahmed just didn't fit in with the group. Even changing his attire to match the group, he still seemed like a odd man out. The chemistry between Ahmed and the rest of the Nation as a unit just wasn't there.
A couple months later Ahmed got injured, paving the way for a young Rocky Maivia to join the Nation and the rest is history. Looking back I think Ahmed was put with the Nation to mask some of his weaknesses, Faarooq was the mouthpiece and Ahmed could be put in more tag matches with D'Lo or Kama doing most of the work. Unfortunately Ahmed was just hard headed and didnt want to adjust or learn, as numerous interviews by members of the Nation have attest to.
Plain and simple Ahmed in the Nation of Domination was a huge failure.
